It is a tradition started by my Aunt Marilyn's family, and their friends. We are simply crashers to the party and we love it. Honeyman is one of those magical places. It is situated in a beautiful forest, but sits right next to the sand dunes.
I convinced David when we got married to make the trek yearly (The Newells and others actually go twice a year). He wasn't too fond of it (not being much of a camper himself) until we discovered the yurts. These are round structures that have bunk beds, a futon, table chairs, lights, and heater. It really makes for a nice camping trip:). Unfortunately this year he had a cold. This year's excursion was clear skies, but cold wind, so we bundled up quite a bit!
We did all the traditional things, eat ourselves silly, roast marshmallows, and climb dinosaur mountain-this is David, Anna, and then my sister Cyndi. They said it was cold and windy at the top, but totally worth the spectacular view of the ocean-

Anna took the fast way down the mountain, just like a penguin in the Arctic.
Anna joined Uncle Todd this year for her first ever fishing experience. This is Lake Cleowox which is at one end of Honeyman. She was so excited to try it, but only lasted about 4 minutes (which is about how long I can stand to fish).
One of the best parts of Honeyman is playing with cousins. I got to visit with my big cousins, and Anna got to play with some of hers (my cousins' children). This is Katelynn and Anna at Cleowox.
No trip to Honeyman would be complete without a side trip up the coastline to Heceta Head. This year we went twice! Anna loved playing on the beach. The first time she flew a kite with Daddy and Grandma Ann.
The second time she built sandcastles with her cousin Michelle. There is a trail up to the lighthouse which Anna has walked both up and back before, but this time she claimed pure exhaustion from all the kite flying. Daddy gave her a lift part way.
At the top she went on the tour with Grandma Ann. Grandma said she was really well behaved, especially considering they had the most long winded guide ever. Anna even had a question for the guide. It was a fantastic weekend until the very end (already covered in a different post). It was great to see my sister Cyndi, my sister Laurie and her family, my parents, aunt, uncle, cousins, and friends. These are my two adorable nieces, Michelle and Camille.
And of course, my beautiful Mother.
